Can I receive a Text message if I have an invalid SIM card?

I have an "Invalid Sim" message.  I've tried all the suggestions to no solution.  I will go to Verizon tomorrow to get a new Sim card but I need to retrieve an incoming text.  I do not have the messenger ap set up and you need your phone active to get a text which is required to set the ap up.

Any suggestions, is it possible to go thru the Verizon website to retrieve the text?

You need the phone active to get confirmation text.  I know no way around that.
