Can I set preference to LTE instead of WiFi
BusinessTraveler

Is there a way to keep WiFi turned on, but have the phone automatically choose LTE for Internet connection?

Phone is iPhone 6s Plus

Why?

When I get to an airport or a coffee shop or anywhere were there is a "free wifi" the phone will try and latch on to that network. If it means having to go through a login process or the phone is stuck and not connected Anymore to anything, so I end up having to either:

- login to the free but often uselessly slow wifi

- go to wifi settings and choose "Forget This Network"

- turn off wifi completely

Turning off WiFi is the fastest way to get back online - but then I forget to turn it back on and it is needed for better and faster GPS / map accuracy

So - is there a way to keep WiFi on but not get stuck having to use a slow "free" wifi every time the phone sniff there is WiFi in the air?

The setting you want is on the Settings/Wifi page. At the bottom, there is Ask to Join Networks. Your sounds like it is on (green). Turn it off and this should stop working. If a network still connects, go to settings/wifi, click the i with a circle and select forget this network. That should fix your problems. My 6 works exactly like you want your to.

You should be able to fix the problem in the Wi-Fi settings menu. You just turn off notifications with Android, but not sure how to on iOs?

BusinessTraveler,

I completely understand wanting to use the fastest connection. Under WiFi there is a setting for ask to join network. It will askif you would like to join a network before actually joining. There is also a setting under cellular called WiFi Assist that would use cellular over a poor WiFi connection. Be careful with this setting has it could use cellular over any WiFi connection.

BusinessTraveler, there is a preference called Wi-Fi Assist which will automatically take whatever signal is stronger out of Mobile or Wi-Fi. Settings > Cellular - scroll to the bottom and it can be toggled ON.

Perfect - that was just too easy - I should have figured that out myself -

I remember when I turned it on because I was annoyed I had to use it every

day at work. But I didn't think about the downside when I travel!

Big Thanks,
