Can i use any iphone on verizon's plans?

I'm looking to buy an iphone 4S on ebay. I have verizon...can I activate ANY iphone on my verizon plan? I remember hearing "these phones were for verizon, these are for at&t"...but that might have been a long time ago and maybe things have changed.

Can anyone help? Thanks

As tiki said you can only use a Verizon branded phone at&t uses a complete different frequency set up with there phones..

and ensure that the phone is clean before purchasing it (i.e., that it hasn't been reported lost or stolen, otherwise you won't be able to activate it)
