Can you create a shortcut to call and/or text a contact?

I have my first iphone (5c) and was previously a droid person.  I am totally missing the widget/shortcut option to put individual contact text or call options on the home page/screen.  Is there ANY way (or an App) that will do this?  Thanks

I hope you're enjoying your new iPhone 5C. I'm positive as you get more comfortable with the device the navigation will be become easier. While there isn't a widget that will help you in this there is a shortcut that I find myself using. Pulling down from the center of the screen will bring a shortcut to reach a contact. If you have a large contact book this is helpful. Also Siri is a great help if you need to call or text an individual.
