Does icloud backup phone messages-voicemails automatically?

I have iphone SE with verizon. Does anyone know if phone messages are included in an Icloud backup (not verizon cloud)?  Or does one need to adjust a setting to backup VM messages?

I delete voicemails periodically to make space. But I hope they have been included in the regular Icloud Backups. (even that you cannot see or obtain them from icloud storage until setting up a new phone, I believe.    But then, how can you get all those voicemails to transfer when space was filled on old phone? Confusing.)
