How do I change the number of rings before voice mail picks up

My phone rings 12 times  before the voice mail pick ups   I want to reduce the number of rings to 5.

How can I do that.     Can I do it myself or do I always have to contact verizon.

It is set at 30 seconds from the system level and can't be changed. Sometimes a different ringtone helps.
