I am due an upgrade on my phone and wanted to give my grandson the iphone 6 for Christmas, that's all he has asked for! His parents are on AT&T. I have gotten the run around with Verizon as to weather it can be switched from Verizon to AT&T. Two people at Verizon have told me it can be done and two said it couldn't be done. I have even taken this to the CEO of Verizon, Lowell McAdam. I have had sooo much trouble with Verizon lately! My daughter and her husband are both school teachers and can't afford the phone. I can get the iphone 6 free if I sign a new 2 year contract with them. I am willing to do this for my grandson but keep getting different answers from Verizon. He would be so disappointed Christmas morning if he got an iphone 6 and it could not be transferred from Verizon to AT&T. Has anyone done this? Thank you so very much!
Verizon cannot guarantee that it will function as Verizon operates on a CDMA network and AT&T operates a GSM network. it may work, it may not. what I might suggest to you as an impartial 3rd party is that you do the upgrade directly through apple and purchase not a Verizon iPhone but an unlocked iPhone so you can be sure it will work.
if I'm understanding you correctly you have service with Verizon and you want to use your upgrade to get a phone for your grandson that will operate on the AT&T network correct? and you would continue to use the same device you've been using.
I have been told, all Verizon phones are unlocked. As you mentioned in your comment, it may not work on AT&T’s network. Do you work for Verizon? It looks like you work for them according to your email address. I would continue to use my same device and give my grandson the upgrade. Thank you for your input.... Karen Smith
they're unlocked but still configured for use on a CDMA network (like Sprint)
