I've been receiving text messages on my phone, but for some reason the phone number is not showing up on my bill under the message log. Does anyone know why?

If I had to guess, I would imagine those messages are being sent as iMessages rather than traditional sms text messages. This means the messages are being sent over data connection rather than sms protocol, so they wouldn't show up.

donnagman,
Let's get to the bottom of these missing text log. Are you unable to view messages history when texting only particular numbers or all numbers? Do the numbers you are unable to see in the text history iPhones as well? Have you been able to view these numbers in your text log before?

When I receive text messages from certain numbers, they are not showing up in the message log. Some of the numbers are Iphones as well, some are Verizon customers, some are not. Do other Verizon users show up and in the message log, or does it depend on what plan they have.
donnagman,
Thanks for the details. All numbers should show up in the message history log, unless you are communicating via iMessage. When texting the numbers that are missing in the message log are you using your normal messaging app on the device or a downloaded app? Have the numbers that are missing been shown in your message log before?

Simplified answer
if the text message you receive is green in the screen, it will show up in the message log. This is a Verizon sent text message
if the message is blue in color, it will not show up on the message log. This is an Apple sent imessage.
