On my daughter's iPhone 5s, she can't set up her voice mail. She had been following the directions online, but when she gets to the point of hitting custom to record her message, she gets a screen that says "voicemail unavailable". How can she fix this?
Did she just get the phone? It's possible that the Visual Voice Mail feature hasn't been put on her account. If that is the case calling Verizon should get things taken care of. It doesn't cost or anything but if it's not turned on for her account then it can't initiate. She can also try toggling the Airplane Mode feature on and then back on to see if that helps (something suggested after a quick google search). Another suggestion is to reset network settings.
Jbeau, Voice Mail services are an integral part of the wireless phone experience. Let's make sure your daughter is able to set up this important feature. Kaebfly offered some excellent tips! Did these help out?
Just in case your daughter still is encountering an issue, please have her try dialing *86 from her phone, and make the changes/set up that way.
Once done, it will transfer over to the Visual Voice Mail service and enable that additional feature.
Let us know if she was able to successfully set up her email. Thank you!

Make sure the feature is on the account for her phone number. Has she always had an iPhone? I've seen users mention when they come from an Android phone and use an NFC SIM from the Android device that causes challenges.
