New Customer and already dealing with bogus data usuage

I am concerned my iphone 5c is reporting data usage on my phone 1 day after activating my phone. I am really annoyed. I have used 1/2 of my 1gb and the data is NEVER ON..... After calling customer service and speaking wit tech support they said I could turn off roaming as well after doing so I did a random test and asked to see my reported data usage ... It said: 9:09am 4.50MB and at 2:10pm 4.939MB I literally have no data..no roaming ,...NOTHING and it is still reporting data .... I am 1 day in and 1/2 way through my quota and I am not even using it... I am beginning to think this was a bad decision.

Thank you.... The rep kind of freaked me out ... she told me I used 50% of my data already but turns out its only 4.9 MB.. that's not even 20% BUT my phone is only showing 3.3 MB and Verizon is saying 4.9.... I dunno

You should dig through your settings and set most Apps to OFF for "use cellular data"

Your phone should be using your home wifi for updates, downloading Apps and music, etc.   You should test your wifi to see if it needs to be replaced.  All smart phones will default to the fastest network available, which may mean Mobile data rather than older, slower routers.

I agree.  If your at home and you have a router, its a little aggravating, but you will get use to it. Just go in setting and turn cellular data off while your at home.

Am curious as to whether you have figured out how to keep the data usage in-check.  I'm waiting to activate my new 5c's until I have more info so I don't go into data death!  Can you share any tips besides the previous replies about turning cellular data off?  Thanks!
