No SIM Card Messages on iphone

I am getting NO SIM CARD messages on my iPhone; first occasionally, but now, multiple times a day. A reboot (or sometimes two) will fix but this is getting really annoying as I lose phone service as well.  I keep my phone updated with the latest releases but it is not being addressed there either.

Why is this happening and how can it be fixed?

Your sim card is defective, get a new one.

aen, we understand the importance of having your device working properly. To clarify, have you removed the SIM card from the device and reinserted? Does it appear to be damaged in any way? Have you reset any settings such as resetting the network settings or device settings?
