I am SO upset! I updated my 4 this past Wed. and now I don't get a notification when a text is sent to me. I spent all day yesterday researching this problem and it seems I am not alone. I've tried all the various tips; rebooted, switched to standard notification sounds rather than special ones, changed notice settings, turned off Do Not Disturb and nothing has worked. I use texts sent to myself from my laptop to find my misplaced phone (I live alone and don't have a land line) and now that option is gone.
Please tell me how to fix this problem? I am so disappointed that even after waiting this long to update my once perfect phone is now so flawed.
If your big concern is the alert that you use to find your misplaced iPhone, I recommend that you install and utilize the Find My iPhone application. With this you can locate your iPhone from your laptop and even send an audible sound ("beep") to alert you to it's location.
The other benefit is that if your phone is lost or stolen it can be located and possibly recovered using this free application. Go to the apple website and search for "Find My iPhone" for more information
Not being able to text myself is only a minor portion of me being annoyed. There is a flaw in ios 6 and I want it fixed - I was notified of texts before and I want that feature back. I shouldn't have to change my likes, Apple needs to correct the problem. I do have the find my phone app, but I have my text sound set to extra loud and long.
I wish I had another solution to your problem but this is just another reason I have not upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 6, to many bugs and not enough new features for the iPhone 4 model (IMO).
I get all other notifications so I know the mute isn't on. I requested Apple call me, but so far that hasn't happened and from the comments on this same topic at an iForum it may never happen so I will call them later today rather than waiting. I am not alone with the issue and would like to think Apple is working on it and since there is going going back to the old system I will learn to work around it. This has been an issue will all models, not just the iPhone 4 - even people with the new 5 are having trouble.
On the plus side, the Do Not Disturb feature is fantastic and I love being able to send a message so easily when I decline a call.
A small bit of good news as well as a bit of bad. Not only am I not getting text messages, but my phone only rings occasionally, but the person I spoke to at Apple took my complaint seriously and is reporting.it in an official way. He never once tried to get me to get a new device and even though he hadn't talked to anybody with this issue he said he would cruise the forums and read the complaints of others.
I was 1/2 worried they try to get me to get an iPhone 5, but since I am an Otterbox junkie I don't want to switch.
Well, in a moment of complete and total self-pity I called Apple again this morning and again got a supervisor. Yes, they are aware of the problem, yes they are working on it and no, they have no idea when it will be fixed.
There was no apology and they did offer to send me a refurbished phone, but since mine has been Otterbox protected since day one I don't want a used phone.
AND, today while running a score of errands I ended up in the 'burbs and my GPS refused to find my current location. I was not happy. My iPhone, iPod Touch can make out-going calls though.
Frankly, I think Tim needs to make a public apology at tomorrow's press conference.
