Problems with 3G

I have an iphone 4 16GB and I think there's a problem with 3G. At many places the 3G is not working and there's no access to internet. I can see other similar devices that have no problems at all at the same place. Does anyone know if I can troubleshoot the iphone 4 to fix this problem? Thanks

Make sure that your iOS is up to date and also call*228 option 2 to update your connection to vzw also it may be possible that if you are one of the top 5% unlimited data users that you are getting throttled down
