Prolem with iphone s/w update

Hi !

I recently brought an iphone5 from Dubai (Jumbo store) and I asked for an unlocked phone and i always thought I got the same, I paid a nearly USD 800 for the same. After few days when i opened the SIM cover, I found a verizon SIM inside the iphone5, But anyways I was able to use my iphone5 with other SIM card in UAE, India & Malaysia, But when I called up Apple customer care they told that its not factory unlocked and its with Verizon, and If I upgrade the software or ios or reset to factory setting the same will get locked. they told me to contact Verizon customer care, can someone let me know how to proceed I was not able to reach the Verizon customer care.
