Regarding iPhone 4s to iPhone 5 upgrade!

Hi,

I still have over a year left on my 2-yr contract with the iPhone 4s (unlimited plan). Since I have to pay full price to keep my unlimited plan anyways, I plan to purchase the 5 and sell off my 4s. However, my concern is whether Verizon will let me buy the phone and/or replace with my current line. I heard that I would have to pay an early termination fee for ending my contract early but technically I'm still on contract, right? I'm just "replacing" my 4s for the 5 that I'm buying for full price anyways. So the question is, will I be able to replace my 4s for the 5 solely by purchasing the phone and keep my current line/plan/etc and not have to "end" or "renew" my current contract?

Thanks!

Yes, it is absolutely true.  Changing the phone on a line doesn't change or extend the contract, and  any features of the contract.  (The exception is if you put a basic phone on a smartphone line, the data package may automatically be removed, but the rest of the contract stays the same).  What does extend the contract is buying a subsidized phone, so buying at full price is fine.

You will then be eligible for an update at the 20 month point of your CURRENT contract.  (Of course, you may not want to use the update then if unlimited is still an issue).

Yes.  If you pay full price to upgrade to the 5 it will not affect your contract date at all.
