Log in to your MyVerizon account for that phone number.
Click on Manage Ringback Tones under "MyVerizon" at the top of the screen.
Select the tone(s) you want to have active and set as desired.

Double (triple) check that you have set the desired tone as the Default tone in the Ringback settings. Be sure that the Standard tone is not set in that position.

Iphones are crazy devices. I own two of them. However they don't like being used with carrier ring back tones or ring tones outside of you getting them from the Apple Store.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5357944?tstart=0
I don't use ring back tones, however I make my own ring tones via iTunes and my own media.
To have ease of use I would just purchase the ring back tone from Apple.
If the other posters suggestion works then all is well. Google the question and find there are many answers in regards to ring back tones on Apple iphones
Good Luck

I have not experienced any trouble at all with the ringback tones nor my own ringtones on my iPhone.

That was why I said if your answer worked then all would be well.
The other discussion from verizon did say to purchase on line via my verizon is how it is set up. However other posters at the Apple Support community are saying just get it from Apple store. That was also one of the replies in the other verizon discussion thread.
Good Luck
