Selling iphone 5

I have a family plan and one of the account is eligible for an upgrade.  As seeing that everyone is satisfied and up to date with their phones, i want to use the upgrade for an iphone 5 and selling it.  I saw in the forums that i can leave the phone unopen in the box and can sell it without activating it.  But i'm curious as to what will happen with the account.  Will i be charged the full retail price of the phone if it's never activated.  Will the 2 years contract be added to the account once the buyer activates it?  Just trying to see if i need to do anything before handing the phone over to the buyer to ensure my account won't be affected.

Thanks in advance,

Be very careful about Selling an IPhone 5 in General, Stolen IPhone 5's are up on list right now due to High Demand and Lack of Supply. Your best bet is to just plain keep the phone right now in case you need it later on or add a Secondary Line for it and use it as a Home Phone Only.

You can do whatever you want to with the phone since the upgrade is associated with your contract.  As long as your contract stays in tact for the 2 year upgrade period, the phone itself is invisible to the system.

Cancelling your contract is what would cause you to incur extra charges for the phone since the charges for the phone are subsidized by your 2 year contract.

I bought one of my Android phones through an authorized seller through a popular electronics web site which I've always had good service from.  I paid $34.99 for the top model phone back then and the fine print said that the full price would be charged if I were to cancel my contract.  I've since, switched phone models to a different Android phone and no charges have been incurred to do so.  I occasionally switch back to my original phone because I like it and it still works.  Verizon's system doesn't care because my plan and continued usage under the 2 year contract is what's paying for the phone.  Verizon could care less if I dropped my phone in the toilet or if I stuck it in my desk drawer unactivated for the remainder of my 2 year contract.  It's all the same to them.  Selling it wouldn't be a problem because it's not on an active line, so my ESN would be clean too.  You just need to be sure there is no active service on the phone itself before you sell it if that's what you decide to do.

I'd love to have an iPhone 5.

They used to charge you if you don't activate but since your signing 2 year agreement before you even get it but this might be so different because if your on a waitlist you don't accept officially untill it's sent.
