I want to make sure you get full use of your phone while abroad, larryheer. If you purchased that iPhone 6S directly from Verizon, it is unlocked 24 hours after initially activating it on our network. While we don't guarantee compatibility with other networks, you will often find that the phone will work just fine on other networks. Please keep in mind that you will need to get a compatible nano SIM card from the Irish carrier. I would recommend reaching out to the Irish carrier in advance to ensure that the phone will work.
