Switching between apps on IPhone with Verizon service

I'm going to switch from Blackberry to an IPhone.  I've heard that with Verizon you cannot switch between applications, i.e. check the internet while staying on the phone.  Using AT&T, you can switch between apps.  Is this true?

very true. It is inherent of the CDMA technology that VZW uses. This doesn't apply if you are on wifi, get a phone call, and want to use the Internet on your phone.
