Let's see what's causing the problem. Are you able to connect to the internet without wi-fi? Are you able to send messages?

Great Kimball60. Now that we know that you can connect and send messages without WiFi. Does this issue exist when the tablet is on WiFi? Are you using the same Apple ID and password on your phone and iPad?
