Using Verizon iPhone 5 on another carrier?

I've been reading around and from what I seen, Verizon's iPhone 5 is already unlocked.

So if I want to use the phone with another carrier, how would I go about that?

When I take the phone to the new carrier, would they be able to activate it no problem?

Is it possible to port my number with the phone as well?

What carrier are you thinking of going to. Verizon is a CDMA phone and AT&T and Sprint are GSM. So even if they are unlocked you can only use a CDMA phone with a provider that is CDMA.
