Why are time restrictions not blocking mobile data?

According to the familybase FAQ:

You can set up time restrictions to:

  • Stop calls. Your child will only be able to communicate with designated Trusted Contacts or 911.

  • Stop messages from being sent or received. This includes messaging activities that are sent or received over the Verizon network as well as third-party apps, such as iMessage®, Facebook®, MySpace® and Twitter®. Your child will only be able to send or receive text and multimedia messages to and from designated Trusted Contacts. Any messages not controlled by FamilyBase will be allowed during time restrictions.

  • Restrict data access. This includes the ability to download apps and content, and access the Internet. All data services will be unavailable, except for My Verizon Mobile, Data Usage Meter, Verizon Cloud and multimedia messages to and from Trusted Contacts.

However this doesn't seem to be working. I still see data being used after the cutoff time.  This is an iPhone 6. And no, there is no WiFi.  I am talking about Mobile Data.

By the way, I can't see anywhere in the Time Restriction settings where I can actually control what is disabled during the restricted times.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Just to follow up on this, I have mostly resolved my own issue.  Primarily it was my own fault.

I had mistakenly assumed that if I chose a time range, say, 9AM to 5PM, that this was the time range when data usage was *permitted*. But it's not. It's the time period where data is blocked. So I had set up my time restrictions completely upside down.  I did not notice this because at that same time, wifi was available.

Secondly, my initial specifying of the time zone didn't stick, so the restrictions ended up kicking in 3 hours earlier than I expected.

Sometimes apps that are left open are recorded late at night. If it shows a recording of data but its 0 than that's normal. If it shows measured amounts check to see if companion app is downloaded on child phones.

Is the companion app required on my child's iphone for data to be blocked?

no. But it gives u all the features and prevents errors better if they

happen. I would call CS and have them do a really good troubleshooting and

if necessary transferred to tier 2 tech.

When you place the restrictions on the data you have to check the box that says " Stop all data useage once the limit is reached"

and remember that the target device must be turned off for the settings to take place

Hi bizzareone,

Isn't that setting only for data limits and not Time Restrictions?  Or does that control what happens when a Time Restriction kicks in too?
