Why do I sometimes get a "Decline" button on incoming calls and sometimes not?

On my new iPhone 7 plus, some incoming calls give me a green accept and a red decline button.  Other calls I only get a slider that says accept.  Why is this, and how can I decline a call when that happens?

So I went to Twitter:

@ If my iPhone 7plus is locked, how do I decline an incoming call, since there is only an Accept slider? No Decline button!

@LevinSEAZ Excellent question! Just press the power button twice and the call should be declined.  ~IA

jbl_in_SE.AZ, we’re always here to assist with any concerns you may have. Let me help clarify as to why you sometimes see an option for accept and decline and other times just a slider to accept. When your phone is locked, you’ll see the option for the slider. If you’re phone is unlocked, then you’ll see the accept and decline button.

Since your phone is locked, you’ll need to use the slider because your screen is disabled due to it being locked. On the latter side, when your phone is unlocked, you have the option to push the button to accept or ignore. I hope this clarifies for you.

Have you notice if one or the other is shown only when the screen is already on?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

This is a great question....

Do you have Favorites seutp?

If you tap on the Phone app > Favorites (lower left corner) > contacts you have listed as a favorite are shown slightly different upon receiving a call.

Thank you, MarkP for the answer. I understand what is happening, though

the second part of my question seems still unanswered. To rephrase, if my

phone is locked, how do I decline an incoming call, since there is only an

accept slider?
