Ah, good point.  It looks like the 4S through verison is 16gb while through Apple it is 8gb.  So I guess they don't let you choose the storage size anymore?

Nope. Verizon is also probably working through its inventory of 16 GB. And Apple has discontinued all models except for the 8 GB version.
