Is there an app or a family plan that let's a parent see actual texts made and received for my children? We all have iPhones.
Also, I'm trying to find out where the short codes come from. Searches haven't been turning up results. The best advice I found was to type in the short code and send the word "help" and sometimes I would get a reply that described who it went to.

Regarding Short Codes you can use these sites to check who (if anybody) owns/is using them:

As a parent, I totally understand the need to monitor our children's wireless phone usage. You may view the text message details for that device, which provide the time, date, and phone number online at My Verizon. For security and privacy reasons, we do not provide the actual content of text messages sent/received on our network, online at My Verizon. However, you have the option of downloading the Verizon Message+ application to your devices. Verizon Messages (Message+) is a texting app that lets you sync your texting conversations across all your compatible devices. Here's more information regarding this application:

A short code is a special 5 or 6 digit telephone number that's shorter than a full phone number. Short codes are used to send and receive SMS and MMS messages to and from mobile phones. There are several Short Code Lookup Tools offered online. Unfortunately, we do not support those websites. As a result, we're unable to verify the accuracy of them.
