double charges on text messages

My wife and I each have iphones.  Each phone has a slightly different text plan.  Mine is 250 and hers is 1000 messages per month.  I often get text messages on my phone sent by her and received by her, thus her plan is charged and my quota too is used up.  In effect we are double charged for text messages. How can this be fixed?

Go to settings->messages->send and receive as and make sure only your phone number is checked.  This should prevent you from receiving eachothers texts that are not being sent between the two of you.

I should have mentioned that these text messages were to and from third parties, not messages between the two of us.

Change to a family unlimited text message feature instead of the text message feature per line?

Ann, thanks for responding.  I have stuck with my 250 message plan because I am grandfathered at $5 per month

Totally understand that, davewv. I have the same text message feature myself an plan to hang on to it as long as possible.

As I understand it, both of the 250 and 1000 text message plans don't have any VZW mobile to mobile allowance. So messages sent to your wife's phone from your phone counts as a message on both phones.

Depending on which phones you have, you could look in a third party IM app that sends the messages over data instead of the text message system. That way messages between you and your wife don't count towards either of your text message allowance.
