e-mail contacts

I set up my iphone4s and I had gmail already, but when I go to write a message I have no contacts on my mobile gmail.  I've never had a smart phone before and I'm sure its simple, but I can't figure out how to get my e-mail contacts on my mobile mail?  Thanks

You have to plug in your phone to iTunes then click your name of tge phone on the left hand side. After click go to contacts then you can import google contacts. That's where you can change any settings or sync rules. Then press sync.
