iPhone 5 and iTunes issue

I have a iPhone 5 which is completely updated and I have not ever been able to sync my iTunes music to my iPhone. When I attempt to sync I get the error message saying that the songs could not be found but they are visible in my iTunes library otherwise. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, were you able to fix it? This is extremely annoying and frustrating.
