iPhone 5c in uk

I plan to be spending a lot of time in the UK in the coming months, and I am wondering how functional my 5c will be over there. Seems like the 5s comes unlocked, is the same true for the 5c? If I get a local SIM over there, am I going to be able to get on LTE or just 3G? Anything software related I need to do to make all this work? And once my contract is up, will the phone remain unlocked.
