lost my contacts

My contacts are lost. Sent a text this morning - everything was normal. Tried to send one this afternoon and my contact list is gone. The phone number history is there, but no names anywhere. I haven't done anything with I-Cloud yet -so it can't be that. Haven't used the 4s for anything other than I normally do - FB, work and home email. I did download the new OS software a week or two ago. Any suggestions? I did shut down the phone and restart it without any luck.

Hey there dbhoglund,

I'm pretty clumsy when it comes to remembering numbers so I know how important it is to make sure we restore them. Have you recently backed them up to Backup assistant, iTunes or the iCloud?

If you have, we'll be able to easily restore the contacts.  Please let us know.
