lost phone... keep number?

if a phone is lost/stolen, can you keep the existing phone number and put it on your new phone? or do you have to get a new number too?

I'm sorry to hear your phone has been lost or stolen! Have we been able to suspend the line already for you? If yes, the line is on hold and you can place your replacement device back on that line and keep your number. You can start the activation of your repalcement device on My Verizon.

I'm sorry to hear your phone has been lost or stolen! Have we been able to suspend the line already for you? If yes, the line is on hold and you can place your replacement device back on that line and keep your number. You can start the activation of your repalcement device on My Verizon.
