Insurance does cover stolen devices - you'll need to suspend service and report it as stolen, you may need a police report as proof.  You'll pay your deductible and be sent a replacement device.  You can file a claim here:  Phoneclaim.com – Verizon phones replaced fast! It would certainly depend on WHICH insurance you have. Assurion covers stolen phones. AppleCare does not.
