when I click on 'phone' icon it goes to 'Recents' and freezes
Having your device function correctly is definitely crucial when attempting to dial out, so I can see the reason for your concern about your device freezing. Help is here. To clarify, do you have the iPhone 6S? What software update are you on? If you have not already, please follow the link and proceed with a software update.
