I was a loyal customer of Verizon Fios for a year and 2 months and never missed a payment but yesterday a collection charge was put on my credit report after I canceled the service over 2 months ago!
Before I canceled my service since a competitor offered a much better price, I called Verizon 3 times to know if I would be prorated for the days that overlapped my billing cycle, each representative confirmed that absolutely I can cancel anytime and will be prorated by the day from my billing cycle start date.
I canceled the service 4 days after my new billing cycle started, and received a $0 balance due letter from Verizon in the mail about one month after canceling, figured the appropriate days would be billed later.
Instead, I was charged $56.33, directly out of my account, 2 months after canceling! I disputed the $42 balance with my bank ( deducted the overlapping days) but got a full refund back from Verizon and therefore the bank sent a full refund for $56.33. This was December 14th, 2022. I thought the case was settled, was home for the holidays, and received 0 notice from Verizon that the amount was still due!
Yesterday January 10th received an alert on my credit report that my score went from 799 to 580!! because of a collection charge from Verizon for $56.33 placed on January 7th and past due by 23 days!!
I immediately called customer service and spoke to at least 5 people who all provide a completely inaccurate response, and told me they sent one email to notify me that the $56.33 was still due which I never received! Never received a single collection notice in the mail, and my bank confirmed the credit was amicably refunded by Verizon!!
I called the collection department of Verizon and paid the charges immediately and was told that the collection would remain as a paid collection on my credit report!! I had been building my credit score for the past year and everything now is crumbling down for $56.33 that I was not even due in reality.
I am devasted for the past 2 days I haven't eaten or slept this is devastating and Verizon collection, customer service, and billing seem to be happy to hear they have ruined my credit I put in so much hard work to get close to 800!
I have filed a dispute since I have the supporting documents from the disputed transaction outcome from the bank and receipt, but won't be able to feel Ok until it's removed, this has turned into a nightmare.
Please help!

Reading through the forum this seems to be a common occurrence with Verizon. I have a similar issue that needs to be resolved. Surely the root cause can be investigated and addressed. There seems to be too many of these cases in the community support.

I need help with this too!! Loyal customer for 15 years. Took my credit score down 160 points from an 820 credit score. Someone send me a link or email too! I have spent DAYS and hours upon hours and NO ONE will help with a stupid $99 charge. I’m happy to pay if they will remove it. I really don’t even care if I owe it or not. Just get it off my credit.

This is absolutely ridiculous! This has happened to us as well. Dropped our credit score 160 points. How did you finally get it resolved? What department? I have spent hours and days on the phone with them with no results. Please help! We are trying to buy a house!!!
