I am writing because my account was reported to the credit bureaus and I am being told that it can't be removed. I recently canceled my residential home phone and internet service and had a remaining balance. I didn't receive the final bill until much later due to a move and have always had trouble logging onto my online account, so I was unable to logon and check the status or pay. I called several times in reference to that issue, which should be on file. The bill was sent to my old address so I didn't immediately get it. Once my mail caught up with me I paid the bill immediately. However, before I had a chance to pay the bill, a collection agency called me twice and were really rude. I informed them the payment had been mailed and they berated me about how long it should take to get to Verizon, like I control the mail. After the last call, they immediately reported me even though I told them the payment had been mailed. I had been a Verizon customer for a very long time, but I will never be again and will let my friends know not to get involved with them. I am in the process of buying a home and this caused my credit scored to drop 50 points and now my home purchase is in jeopardy because of a new collection account. I would think that due to the circumstances they would be willing to work with me and remove the collection from my report. I know for a fact that items can be removed from your credit report. I am very disappointed with how this was handled.
