Account closed and Verizon reported me- how to remove this from my credit???!

I was with Verizon for years and when I closed my account in July the app told me I had zero balance, the next time I went it to check the account no longer could be found? So why would I look to pay 0 dollars.  Long story short I paid Verizon just recently when I received a bill that I had an outstanding balance from a debt collector!  Verizon is unreachable and I want them to remove this from my credit as I paid once I saw the phsyical bill- I have not been deliquent with them and it is not right just because you leave the company that they put you to collections and drop your credit score.  This is why my friends always say dont go to VERIZON- common errors or misinformation they do not handle properly and instead RUIN your credit.  This is not right of Verizon as I use the app they provide why in the world if I have paid for years would I not pay my final bill?!  I want to be just like my friends and put a company like this out of business.  Telling at least one person every day of this horrible action that dropped my credit score 75 points!  Over a 100.00 cable bill is simple ridiculous.  Verizon should not be able to do this to customers! Whats more they come to my new address asking me to come back giving me all but the kitchen sink- I just want my 75 points back- this is madness!
