Cancellation Fee

I moved to another city, outside the city limits. I tried to transfer my account of internet only, but was told Verizon did not supply net at this location.  This forced me to cancel before my one year was up. The rep I spoke to said $20 cancel fee, but my cancel notice said $110.  What gives? If Verizon cannot supply the service, why must I pay a fee to cancel service?

....because you signed a contract for service for X amount of time at your original location.

I would be happy to pay a cancellation fee.  I have been trying to cancel my service with Verizon for 10 days and all I do is get be on endless hold.  I have sent numerous emails to cancel.  no one at verizon cares about any customer.  does anyone know a direct number to a live person at verizon who has an IQ above 50 and can complete the simple task of canceling my service.  I do hate verizon for their disrespectful attitude

I understand this 100%. I cancelled my service (AFTER ASKING A VERIZON REP) a week from my cancellation date. I asked what I needed to do to NOT get a cancellation fee added. They told me "if you go ahead and pay your last bill no fees will be added." I did just that and about 3 months later have Verizon coming after me over $200 for a cancellation fee. In my opinion these are the real criminals of the world. We as people can't be free to move forward with a cheaper provider even if an employee at these companies gives us the green light. Verizon argued with me saying their employeer didn't note this when we spoke (So since their employeer can't do his job that must make the customer wrong). All these companies do is hurt our credit while they sit on millions of dollars not willing to budge and continue to take. I feel that Verizon acts in a worse way than a crook who stole bread to feed his family. I am a writer fir a major paper in Austin, Texas and a nice little piece will be coming out soon over these sorts of issues wth these companies. Can you hear me now, now?

I have the same issue. We are moving for a job to an area that they don't offer service and they are charging me a $180 early termination fee.  I don't want to cancel service but would rather just transfer it but who cares...VERIZON Cares only about themselves!!!

How about this exert from the "Terms and conditions" ?

"  VERIZON DOES NOT WARRANT OR GUARANTEE THAT SERVICE CAN BE PROVISIONED TO YOUR LOCATION, OR THAT PROVISIONING WILL OCCUR ACCORDING TO A SPECIFIED SCHEDULE, EVEN IF VERIZON HAS ACCEPTED YOUR ORDER FOR SERVICE. THE PROVISIONING OF SERVICE IS SUBJECT TO NETWORK AVAILABILITY, CIRCUIT AVAILABILITY, LOOP LENGTH, THE CONDITION OF YOUR TELEPHONE LINE AND WIRING INSIDE YOUR LOCATION, AND YOUR COMPUTER/DEVICE CONFIGURATION AND CAPABILITIES, AMONG OTHER FACTORS. IN THE EVENT YOUR LINE IS NOT PROVISIONED FOR ANY REASON, NEITHER YOU NOR VERIZON SHALL HAVE ANY DUTIES OR OBLIGATIONS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT (OTHER THAN YOUR OBLIGATION TO RETURN ANY EQUIPMENT). "

Wouldn't that mean a cancellation fee cannot be applied if Verizon cannot provide the requested service in your new location ?

Thanks

Then you shouldnt have signed the contract in the first place. I dont get why people complain when all they have to do is read. You have no one to blame but yourself.
