Closed Account Sent to Collections Agency

I had a FioS account for 1 year from 5/09 to 4/10. I am still a Verizon customer but different state/account.  I just got a copy of my credit report and it says that I owed $99 to Verizon and it was sent to a collections agency in January 2012.  I never received a bill from Verizon and have never heard from any collections agency. I was signed up for online bill pay and the account was closed, so I certainly could not have received any emails through the online account.  I just spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Verizon.  I just got through to the 7th Verison representative (1st was general representative then billing then recovery then billing then financial services then billing then to billing supervisor) and I got disconnected. Everyone seems to want to help, but I ended up getting nowhere.

No one can tell me what exactly the charge is for.  Several people noted that there was zero due (they could not see the $99) and the account is closed.  Then they eventually found some odd charge added that was adjusted down to the $99.  But this took place in 2011 (again, the account was closed in April 2010).  One representative told me they could not get the information for what the charge was for because it was on hold because it was being sent to a collection agency.  I said that according to my credit report this has been in collections since January 2012, so it does not make sense that it is in the process of being sent to collections. Why would a charge be added to a closed account?

I am trying to apply for a home loan, so I need to clear this up as soon as possible. I see that other people have posted to the forum with similar problems.

How difficult was it to get this problem cleared up?  I have been very patient and everyone seems to want to help but tells me they can't do anything.Smiley Sad

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".
Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.
