This company is a ruthless, frigid machine that cares NOTHING at all for its customers.
Verizon deducted my bill payment from my checking account TWICE which left me overdrawn and unable to buy necessities like gas and food... after an hour and half on hold and trying to get the money refunded the best I got was an combative uncaring "supervisor" who said I would have my money back in 3-5 days.
I don't think Verizon is going hungry. But I'm screwed.

Unfortunately a call to your bank or credit union would have reversed the double payment to Verizon. They see it as a double hit, they reverse it, they make good on bounce fees and are required at least in NY to write to any person that got a bounced or NSF notice a letter saying it was not your fault.
In the future do not use automatic payments for your account. It is bad business to give anyone your account number even if they are reputable.
