Getting Billed for closed account

Back in December I inquired about service which my house did not have. There was no active connection to my house from the the road or otherwise as the previous owner did not have service. After signing up I was told I would be contacted for install. Installation never happened and I was never contacted again until April when I received a past due bill in the mail for an exorbitant amount. I then called customer service who assured me that the account I had created was closed, I could disregard the bill, there would be no charges as there was no install. I even received a reference number for this conversation. Now several months later I have received another bill which includes the previous charges as well as new with a notice from a debt collector that the original account is so far past due thst it has been sent to them. After calling Verizon again, the customer support representatives state that they cannot help me as there is no account showing up in my name and that since I have no install date, they cannot check further. I am not certain where to proceed from here.

Hi Mb1776,

As this is a peer to peer support forum, you will need to contact Verizon directly for assistance. We have sent you a private message with contact information for a dedicated specialist who is able to help with a resolution of your issue.

I would first contact the three credit bureaus via certified mail return receipt that the verizon item that is now ruining your credit be removed and not be placed on the reports again.

also send a certified return receipt letter to the address of the credit collection agency disputing the bill and also include copies of the issue of having no service as well as any information from Verizon .

you can also contact your states Attorney Generals Office to have them intervene. Also file for the credit bureaus being given erroneous information from Verizon.

also http://www.fcc.gov file an online complaint to get verizon to fix their mess.
