Removing Missed Payment From Credit Report

I opend a verizon fios account August, 2014 and never missed a payment since then.

I moved to Washionton April, 2017.  After that my roommates uses the account(we share the service) until they leave the house. But they didn't pay the last bill without notifying me.

I found there is a missed payment on my credit report January, 2018. I paid off the bill immediately and call the customer service, Verizon representative said the negative report will be removed within 30 days. But it is still there right now. My credit is damaged by this item now. I called custom service for the whole day and was redirected back and forth.

Can anyone help or share experience about how to resolve such issue. I am freaking out now.

Hi ZhenglinWu,

As this is a peer to peer support forum, you will need to contact Verizon directly for assistance. We have sent you a private message with contact information for a dedicated specialist who is able to help resolve your issue.

The sad part is although not personally not paid initially by you, your roommates caused a situation which is not as easy as customer service tells you.

negative information stays on your credit report for 7 years. It could be removed by the creditor but often times it is a special department like the billing department or accounts receivable that send auto updates to all credit bureaus.

you can contact all credit bureaus and dispute the item from Verizon but it would be verified as not paid, and paid off and the date.

look up the fair debt collection practices act for what creditors can and cannot do.

if you dispute it and Verizon does not reply it comes off. However their are three main credit reporting agencies (there is a fourth but I cannot remember the name) and it must be disputed from all of them that carry that trade line.

if they respond as a valid line item it stays on for those 7 years.
