Zombie account sent to collections

I cllosed my old account in VA in 2013 when I moved to NJ and opened this account. Then charges started accruing on my old account and the account was sent to collections. I have tried to resolve this with Verizon many times but cannot get to the right person to get the derrogatory remark removed from my credit report. HELP

Contact the three credit bureaus and dispute it. Tell them exactly the situation and if you have a confirmation from Verizon on that old account send copies to the credit bureaus. Within thirty days they must verify the line or remove it completely.

also point out you have an account with Fios presently.
