I read a thread on crackberry.com that there is a new OS update for the Storm 2.
It's 5.0.0.428 and has been leaked and that it helps correct a number of problems.
It has a number of steps that I'm not comfortable doing myself.
If I was able to get to a Verizon store, ( which is difficult for me) would they be able to help me download and install this leaked OS version?

Hi,
To answer your question, no. Verizon will only assist you with OS releases that have been released by them. Any leaked OS will have to be installed by the user. Also, if you have problems after installing a leaked OS and you should come to Verizon for help, the first thing they will tell you to do is to load the latest official release.

I Have also been told any unofficial OS download to your phone will void your warranty.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot that big reason not to use a leaked version.

Once the leak becomes official as in the case of .419 for the S1, the warranty issue can be challenged because RIM and BlackBerry released it. On the other hand a leaked version is actually a stolen OS and if it were to damage the device the carrier would have a stronger case.
And Hybrids are another story.
