How can I keep my phone from automatically downloading messages from the server?  I would rather it download email  when I want to.  Is this possible; I can't find an option to do this.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply.  I understand what you are saying.  This phone was given to me.  I didn't set out to get one but I love the phone.  I can hear clearly and I have an excellent signal most of the time.  I just get so much junk mail thAt I normally delete off the server before it hits my inbox.  But the phone has it as soon as I turn the phone on.  But sometimes the email is  useful to me so I will just have to put up with it.  Thanks again.

The whole point of a Blackberry device is that it is "always on". It's push email that's sent directly to your device the second it hits your inbox. There's no setting to turn this off because it would defeat the whole purpose of it being a Blackberry. If you want a device that does that then you can look into a Windows Mobile phone which can poll your email server at set intervals or you can do it manually.
