Good morning. I am traveling in Canada for the next 3-4 weeks. I have the international plan for U.S.-Canada-Mexico with all unlimited data/text/voice as a Loyalty55 customer. Yet I receive texts daily from Verizon asking to pay $5 extra to have high speed internet access (which in Canada is what we used to have at 1200 bauds). Anyway I spoke to Gil, a Verizon rep, two days ago and he said to not worry about that.
But I still receive these messages and it worries me. WHAT’S GOING ON WITH MY PLAN?
Here’s the text I keep receiving daily:
“You have reached your daily 0.5 GB int'l high speed allowance. Data speeds are now reduced. Normal speed will resume at midnight eastern time. Want to continue your high speed data experience? We've got you covered. Get an additional 0.5 GB for $5 to use for the remainder of this session. To purchase, simply reply 'Yes' to this message.”
PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE. Thank you.
Kirdordinn, you're receiving these prompts because as the notification mentions, you've reached your 0.5GB international high speed allowance and you're being offered an additional 0.5GB for $5. Does this help to clarify?

No it doesn’t help. When I adhered to the Loyalty 55 plan plus the international USCANMEX I was told repeatedly that I would not have to pay for data at all. And in Canada it looks like their “high speed” is just about 2 Mbps. The point is that I joined the international plan because it was the same as my U.S. plan, unlimited voice/texts and unlimited data.
You're roaming off a non Verizon tower in another country. "High speed" just means it's not going to be throttled to unusable speed within the first half a gig. It does not adhere to the same rules as using unlimited at home.
After you use half a gig, you can either sit it out till the next day it renews or optionally pay if you want faster data after half a gig. You're not being forced to pay extra anything.
Agreed International data is not as advertised. I have the same experience in Mexico. I was "reassured" many times by Verizon reps before and during this trip that i would have unlimited data and 50GB of hotspot on my jetpack. In less than 24 hrs across the border i was throttled. I work remotely and Verizon's false advertising by 5 or more customer service reps caused me incredible stress as i work via video. Then verizon wants $5 for 0.5 gb. I had to get a Mexican router-modem and am paying both companies. Verizon please update your International plan so that it is HONEST. I planned this trip including how to get a signal and data months before I left. Verizon would not discount or remove service charges until my 4th call to them. This is false advertising IMO. On top of that, i couldn't get anyone on the phone at Verizon so i was in 6 and 8 hr chats on throttled data.
