We have a GE Model 28223 DECT 6.0 wireless multi-handset (3) speakerphone/answering telephone system and FIOS Freedom Essentials telephone service bundled with TV and Internet. Our Wi-Fi is turned off. Our phones exhibit strange behavior. 1) For no apparent reason, one of the phones sometimes doesn’t ring, display caller ID or work when other phones do. There is no pattern to this behavior and after a while, the affected phone works again normally. 2) Quite often, the phones’ screens illuminate like they are being used while sitting in the cradle unused. I called GE support and they told me that there can be compatibility problems with FIOS. I need to know either how to remedy these problems or how to know beforehand if a potential replacement phone system is 100% compatible with FIOS.

I have a somewhat similar environment, a Uniden DSCT 6.0 system with multiple handsets, FiOSTV and internet, and Freedom Essentials.
1) I have never experienced that, at least as far as I know. But that sounds like a signal strengh problem, or maybe even a battery problem in that phone. Is it always the same phone that fails? If so, try swapping two handsets to see if the problem follows the phone; if it does, I would bet on the battery. Since you have wi-fi turned off (are you really, really sure you do?) then the router should not be affecting the phones at all.
2) That happens on my phones when my wife is using the phone (of course, she is the only one that ever uses the phone!). This happens when another call comes in while the line is busy, because of Call Waiting Caller ID, which is part of Freedom Essentials. So my guess is that is what you are seeing.
Honestly, I don't have any idea why GE support would say something like that, I think pretty much everything is compatible. I have used several different systems with FiOS and Freedom Essentials over the last 5 1/2 years, including old touch-tone sets that draw their power from the phone line, and all have worked just fine.

Thanks for the thorough reply. With no compatibility criterion, we'll just have to take our chaances with a replacement system.
