Change DHCP Settings

Hello,

I have a rather stange issue.  I recently started chaning the addresses of some of my network devices and wanted to update my DNS server settings on the router and to be handed out with DHCP.  When I changed the DNS addresses in the DHCP settings, they applied successfully.  I turned off the router, let it stay off for a few seconds and turned it back on.

When i then restart my computer, i get the same DNS settings that I had gotten before.  I went back to the router's page and it still had the updated IP and DNS settings.  I ran an IPCONFIG /Release and an IPCONFIG /Renew and I still got the same DNS settings.

I don't know why it won't change the DNS settings that are handed out with DHCP.  I have set it up on other routers and dedicated DHCP servers before (not at the same location) and the settings always take affect.

The router is an Actiontec GT704-WG, modem and wireless router in one.

Thank you for your help,

Allen

well... after an hour of live chat, I find out that this is a paid business option and I can't do it as a home user.  Looks like I'm changing my router and modem.... or at least my DHCP server.

If what you're looking for is to enable DHCP Option 6 (DNS Server pass-through) without the modem's DNS proxy, the modem only offers up to my knowledge itself as a DNS server to the computers and this cannot be changed . I'm not the most familiar with the ActionTec gateways and I'm not sure if there is actually a DNS passthrough option or the ability to disable the DNS Proxy. This isn't something that Verizon really has support in for their firmware but it would take a few small iterations to add it right in (helps to keep the modems more stable having it in too!). It's not something that needs paid support for however.

So if anything, another DHCP server in the network with correct default route info or another router would work if you want passthrough. If not, the proxy obeys what DNS servers you tell the gateway to use.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.  It would always hand out itself and a verizon dns.  I ended up switching out the wireless gateway for a mokdem and adding in my own wireless router.  Now I have full control of all the settings.  I also had a DHCP server on a windows server that i use for testing and it would hand out the right Dns address.

I need help in assigning a DHCP number to my MAC address.  The systme keeps saying my MAC address is already in the systme.  How do I make it change to a higher DNCP number to keep from competing with my other devices ?
