Connecting new router from Verizon

We just received a new Actiontec router from Verizon. Plugged in power cord and phone line and can not get a connection. What am I doing wrong? On the last router (Westell) we did not have to have an ethernet cable to use the router and I assumed we didn't need to do that with this router either.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Are you having a problem with the DSL modem synching up or connectly wirelessly to your computer?
