DHCP Address Changes

I am running Windows XP. I have a home network with three desktops and several WiFi devices. I have the Actiontec GT704 DSL modem with built in wireless router. This all works fine with everything set for DHCP.

The trouble is, my main computer often gets a different IP address from DHCP when I have to shut it down or reboot. This causes problems with an application that I run that uses a web server running on my computer.

I think I would like to turn off DHCP and set an absolute IP address outside of the DHCP series in the main computer  while leaving DHCP on in the router for the other devices. But when I try that, I loose Internet connection on the main computer.

Can anyone suggest a cure for this issue?
