DSL Speed Question?

Hi I currently have high speed internet from verizon which I'm paying $27.99 /month the spped my modem shows is 1.2mbps it used to be 768kps when I just got the service in 2006. My question is can or is it possible for my line to get a higher speed? I have chatted online with customer service and they said I can get 1.5mbps for 34.99 (which I don't think that's worth it and I don't know if I'll even get that described speed.)

Quick Info - I have the D-Link 2750 modem/router and here is the traceroute

You're pretty far out based on the attenuation numbers and noise margin, so 1.5Mbps is doable but not much more once you start to go beyond 2.2Mbps.

If another ISP is around, you may want to see what they can offer. Most cable companies offer a minimum of 2Mbps for $15, so you'll want to price this out on how much each Mbps costs for each ISP's plan, relative to each other.

In my case, I have both DSL and cable available to me. The max DSL can operate at is 5Mbps due to distance from the CO and age of the equipment. Cable maxes out at 50Mbps. DSL is currently giving me 5Mbps/768kbps for about $38.99/month. Cable, at least for 12 months is able to give me 6Mbps/1Mbps for around $25/m and I can go to 15Mbps/1Mbps for $35/m which will then go to $42/m after a year. This is standalone pricing.

Here is the transciever statistics It came from the old Westell 6100 I had before it got replace with the D-Link 2750B , unfortunalty the D-link doesn't have that option for showing those stats.

Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0
Vendor ID Code: 4
Line Mode: ADSL2+ Mode
Data Path: Interleaved

Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 1179 447
Margin (dB) 16.5 15.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 63.5 39.0
Transmit Power (dBm) 15.0 11.9

Please create another thread in this forum so that we can help you. Please provide your modem Transceiver Statistics, or at least the speed it displays at the main page. In addition, we will need information such as whether or not the speed is higher at certain times of a day or not, and how you are connected to the gateway (Wired or wireless).

Thanks! 🙂
